This is my absolute peak season, and I’m almost looking forward to things calming down next month. Almost, but not quiet. I get a little itchy if the phone stops ringing.

Amidst the heavy workload is a portrait project that has me very excited. There are three words that are likely to send any photographer into a dribbling tizzy: Full – Creative – Control. And that’s what I have on this particular series of images.

I photographed the first one earlier this week of a chiropractor – my chiropractor as it happens. (I don’t have a bad back, but as a photographer who recently left his 30s, I have to start being careful and have been seeing Ben regularly to keep my spine in order).

The photograph is pretty much a straight picture (a little tidying up in PhotoShop notwithstanding) with the artificial spine and Ben lit on two separate planes, allowing me to put the highlights were I wanted them.

The “gun” Ben’s holding is what he uses to gently manipulate his patients’ spines. No bone-cracking here.

Ben is a pretty switched on guy and the picture will run with a press release and as part of a media campaign to coincide with the release of a spy movie in October. You know the one.
